SHIELD – derived from the provincial seal of Ilocos Sur where the town is located.

 

MORTAR AND PESTLE – items known to be produced and crafted in the municipality.

 

FISH – represents the abundance of yellow fin tuna and fishing as the primary source of livelihood in the coastal barangays.

 

VIRGINIA TOBACCO LEAF – symbolizes the main source of income the townspeople.

 

1910 – denotes the year when the municipality was created; also the year when Juan Hernaez was appointed as the first municipal president.

 

10 STARS – depict the number of barangays that comprise the Municipality.
