SHIELD - derived from the provincial seal of Batanes where the town is located

CIRCLE - symbolizes unity and cooperation among the people that brought about progress in the municipality

FOUR DIVISIONS - represent the four political subdivisions of the municipality of Mahatao namely: Hanib, Kaumbakan, Uvoy and Panatayan

CHURCH FACADE - denotes Roman Catholicism which ushered the development of education and culture among inhabitants of the community

FISH - depicts the "DORADO" specie which abounds during summer and provides additional income for the fishermen, it also attracts local and foreign tourists

BULL HEAD - stand for the most important income earner of the people

FARM LAND - represents Mahatao as an agricultural community

ISLAND - depicts the original settlement of the ancestors of the people of Mahatao; the derivative of the present name meaning floating

1917 - the year the municipality was established
