SYMBOLISM
CIRCLE – symbolizing unity with the names of the municipality and the province inscribed in it in red.
SHIELD – derived from the seal of the province of La Union, divided into four parts.
SUN WITH EIGHT RAYS AND THREE STARS – at the upper quadrant of the shield represents the eight provinces that first rose against Spain and the three stars represent the islands of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
SHOVELS, GRAVEL, AND SAND – at the lower quadrant of the shield depicts the sand and gravel industry which is one of highest revenue producing industries and the most modern in the town.
SAILBOAT, FISH, AND SEA – at the left quadrant of the shield represents “fishing”, one of the major industries of the coastal town.
RICE FIELDS, PLOW AND STALK OF RICE – at the right quadrant of the shield represents agricultural farming which makes the town known as the rice granary of the first district of La Union.
40 DOTS – represent the 40 barangays of the municipality.
