5TH INFANTRY DIVISION, PHILIPPINE ARMY

Year Approved: 1988

SYMBOLISM

The 54th Infantry Battalion seals takes the shape of the historic “KALASAG” used in the early times. Since it is symbolic of that inherent hostility among Filipinos towards oppressive foreign powers, the Battalion adopts it to signify the primary mission of the unit which is to guard the nation against all threats to her sovereignty and to protect her in the event of external aggression.

The “KALASAG” comes in blue color which denotes peace, serenity and happiness of all people while the pitch black bordering the “KALASAG” portends the dead like mobility of the unit that is akin to the black cat, cunning yet savagely infallible of his prey. The white eagle head characterizes the purity, power, courage and responsiveness of action of the unit. The number in gold color indicates the actual designation of the Battalion with unblemished loyalty to God and country.

The “Three Stars” represents the three main islands of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Any part of which can be the AOR of the 54th Inf Bn. They form a triangular cluster to symbolize unity although the islands are separated by water, it is still one country under one flag.

Each member of the 54th IB, is therefore a protector of the oppressed and a defender of freedom. He should possess the agility and skill required from a trooper to enable him to penetrate even behind the enemy lines. He must be adept with the rights of his fellowmen as embodied in the constitution and must be a respecter of law.

At the bottom of the seal “MASILAG”, written in bold white letters which means over adept, agile, clever and intelligence characterizing the units adage to keep always on the alert against the forces that will undermine the laws of the Republic and to ensure a tip-top conditions at all times never to outfooted.
