RICE TERRACES - the original name of Poblacion of Kabayan, which is Lutab, was derived from the Kalanguya word "lutab", which refers to the indigenous method of building rice terraces. Agriculture is the economic base in the municipality
MUMMY - mummification by the Ibalois of Kabayan is a culture unique among Filipinos
YEAR - inscribed below the shield is the year 1900 signifying creation of the municipality - merging the "rancherias" of Lutab, Kebajan (now Kabayan Barrio), and Adaoay ( all founded in 1870 ) by virtue of Act No. 48 of the US - Philippine Commission on November 22, 1900
