SHIELD - derived from the provincial seal of Cagayan where the town is located

CIRCULAR BLUE LINES - symbolize loyalty and unity

NORTH STAR - represents the geographical location of the municipality, which lies at the northern tip of the Philippines

NATIONAL COLOR - placed over the horizon, dominating almost one half of the circle, reflects the degree of the loyalty of the townspeople to the Republic of the Philippines. Because of their loyalty, their sentiments and aspirations are with those of tne rest of the whole Filipino nation

THE SEA & THE FOUR (4) ISLANDS - stand for the four (4) major islands that comprise the municipality of Calayan namely: Calayan Island—the seat of the Municipal Government, Camiguin Island, Babuyan Claro Island and Dalupiri Island

THE "LAMPITAW" (PUMP BOAT) - represents the structure that bridges the people of the municipality with the rest of the people of the Philippines. It also stands for the means of transportation being used in the islands

INSCRIPTION (MOTTO OF THE MUNICIPALITY) - "VOX POPULI, VOX DEI", meaning the voice of the people is the voice of God
