RIFLE - stands for the basic firearm of a Marine soldier

KRIS - represents the unit as one of the elites of the Armed Forces of the Philippines

"MATATAG" - the moniker of the Unit. This is in line with the Unit's command guidance of being people-oriented, institutionally strong as well as operationally effective
