1910 - the year when the University was established as a Farm Settlement School for the Tagbanuas by the American Thomasites. On March 5, 2004, Republic Act No. 9260 converts the State Polytechnic College of Palawan into a state university to be known as the Western Philippine University (WPU).

CIRCULAR SHAPE - represents the university's dynamism and symbolizing the wheel of development.

These symbols affirm the university's mission to work for sustainable resource development and environment protection:

GOLDEN GEAR - serves as a guiding light of the university in carrying out its fourfold function of Instruction, Research, Extension and Production.

GREEN POLYGON and THREE (3) GREEN LINES - represent the terrestial resources.

BLUE WAVES - stand for the aquatic resources.
