THREE (3) STARS- represent the main geographical divisions of the Philippines- Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. It is manifestation of one of the mandates of the Academy as a state college which is to provide subsidized education to deserving and interested applicants who want to become merchant marine officers
SEA LION- represents the Navy, the branch of service where a PMMA graduate is most fitted to join
LAUREL LEAVES- stand for honor, superior performance, nobleness and greatness of character, the time-honored tradition that every PMMA cadet must uphold
MOTTO- expresses the ideals of PMMA. These are the principles that are the guiding light of PMMAers as they strive for excellence in every undertaking.
STEERING WHEEL- signifies the effort exerted by the PMMA cadet that is directed to a common goal- to become an efficient and well-trained merchant marine officer who is par or even better than marine officers of other countries. the eight spokes stand for the cardinal points of compass.
ANCHOR- symbolizes the main course offered by PMMA- degree in Marine transportation, major in Marine Engineering and Nautical Studies. The "fouled" anchors signify the mastery of arts and techniques of "unfouling the anchor" and securing the ship from any untoward incidents.
LAMP- symbolizes the PMMA as an educational institution tasked to provide knowledge, skills, arts and techniques of the noble profession of seafearing
1820- the establishment of the Escuela Nautica de Manila, the forerunner of PMMA, on April 5, 1820 by virtue of a Spanish Royal Decree upon the recommendation of the Board of Commerce.
