SHIELD - derived from the provincial seal of Samar where the town is located

CROSS-SWORD - depict the Christianity of the townspeople and their aspiration for justice and equality

CORE CIRCLE, DIVIDED INTO FOUR - represents the poblacion, the core of the municipality which is composed of four (4) barangays

SUN WITH FOURTEEN (14) RAYS - symbolizes hope for future progress and developments of the town's fourteen (14) barangays

SEA & SHRIMP - depict fishing as one of the main sources of income of the municipality; the shrimp being the dominant and bountiful marine resource in which the municipality is known for

MOUNTAIN & RICEFIELD - symbolize agriculture as the other main source of income of the municipality; the mountain represents the upland farming; the hilly portion of the municipality and the riceland describe lowland farming with rice as its main crop

BIRDS - depict the bio-life present in the mountains

RED, WHITE & BLUE - derived from the colors of the national flag; depict the loyalty, nationalism and patriotism of the townspeople

1950 - the year when the municipality was founded
