SHIELD - derived from the provincial seal of Southern Leyte where the town is located.

FOURTEEN PALM LEAVES (ANAHAW) - represent the fourteen barangays comprising the town; depict that anyhow tress were prevalent and abundant in the locality, hence, the name of the municipality.

1930 - the year the town was created.

ABACA ROPES AND BAMBOOS - signify solidarity and strength of the townsfolk as people; depict the two agricultural products of the municipality, abaca and bamboo.

FIRST QUADRANT - shows the fisherman and the sea depicting the fishing industry, one of the sources of income for most of the people.

SECOND QUADRANT - depicts the hot spring located in Barangay Mainit and is a prominent local tourist attraction.

THIRD QUADRANT - show lake Danao majestically located atop a mountain; another prominent landmark, a potential tourist attraction, a wildlife sanctuary and botanical sites.

FOUTH QUADRANT -  coconut trees depicting the coconut industry as the main source of income of the farmers and source of indigenous materials for cottage industries.
